The Police in Mityana have arrested a man suspected to have killed a Police officer in a hit-and-run incident in the Maracha district.

He has been identified as Gift Ibrahim, a resident of the Koboko district.

It is alleged that on Easter Sunday, Ibrahim, while driving a Toyota Premio registration number UAZ 734Q from Koboko to Arua, knocked Constantine Adiga, a Police officer attached to Maracha Police Station, while crossing the road at Nyadri Town Council.

After the incident, Ibrahim abandoned the vehicle with its owner and relocated to Kampala and later to the Mityana district.

While in the Mityana district, Ibrahim engaged himself in the same business of transportation when he was netted by the Police there.

The Police spokesperson for the West Nile region, Josephine Angucia, revealed that the process that led to Ibrahim’s arrest began with Police impounding the vehicle from which the manhunt for the suspect began.

“Because people had already marked the vehicle, we were able to impound it accordingly and parked it at the Police station later the owner cooperated with the Police to ensure that the suspect was arrested and brought to Arua, and later handed to Maracha to face justice,” Angucia disclosed.

Angucia cautioned drivers to desist from fleeing the scene whenever an accident occurs, but instead report to any nearby Police station since the accident is not intended.

“It is a common habit that drivers always run away after causing an accident, but, I want to urge drivers to avoid running away from accident scenes. I advise them that they should always report to any Police station and face justice,” she cautioned.
