Farmers killed in Niger village attack by suspected bandits
At least 10 farmers were killed in an attack on Allawa village in Niger state on Wednesday, according to residents
According to online reports, residents reported that the gunmen targeted farmers working in their fields in the Shiroro local government area late Wednesday afternoon.
“The farmers were trapped and 10 killed yesterday evening in their respective farms,” said Hassan Abubakar, a local resident.
Another resident, Indamishe Auwal, assisted in recovering the bodies and expressed despair over the escalating violence and lack of safety in the region. “Shiroro is bleeding. Our people are suffering and bandits have taken over our farmlands,” Auwal stated.
The attack on Allawa is the latest in a string of violent incidents plaguing northwest Nigeria, where banditry has become rampant. Kidnappings for ransom have crippled communities, with farmers, students, and motorists often targeted.
