Flooding: ‘We Have Not Reached A State Of Emergency,’ Suleiman Adamu says.

Suleiman Adamu, Minister of Water Resources, has stated that the current flooding in the country’s northeastern region does not warrant a state of emergency declaration.
According to Track News, the flood disaster has killed over 600 people and displaced over 2 million people.

Suleiman stated that the relevant authorities have not stated that they are incapable of handling the current situation, so the flooding has not reached the point where a state of emergency has been declared.

He went on to say that if the situation became too much for the country to handle, a state of emergency would be declared.

“It is certainly an emergency situation,” he says, “but it depends on what you call a state of emergency.” In my opinion, we have not reached a point where the relevant emergency management authorities are unable to deal with the situation. That is something I am not aware of.

“We have state, federal, and government emergency management, as well as local government; I do not believe they have stated that they are overwhelmed by what they have been doing.” Chades are people who live in very small countries and territories. The vast land in Chade is desert, and the effect it will have on people, as well as their level of preparedness and ability to deal with an emergency situation, is something Nigeria cannot do.

“I’m sure if the situation had exceeded our capabilities, a state of emergency, in whatever form that may take, would have been declared in the country.”
