One of the most important pillars of Islam is sajdah, or prostration during daily Muslim prayers. Muslims perform Sajdah in every prayer, so two sujud are performed in every rakat of the Salah. The number of sujud performed by Muslims is determined by the amount of Rakat.

Pictures of Tinubu performing the Solat (prayer) in a sitting position have elicited a lot of comments on social media since he joined the 2023 presidential race. His detractors question his health and conclude that the 70-year-old is unfit to lead Nigeria.

Standing during prayer is an essential pillar that cannot be skipped. It is not permissible for anyone to pray sitting unless he is unable to stand, or standing is extremely difficult for him, or he is sick and fears that praying standing up will worsen his illness.

This includes a paralyzed person who is unable to stand at all, an elderly person who finds standing difficult, and a sick person who will be harmed by standing because it will either worsen his illness or delay his recovery.
