Imeobi lambasts current generation of Igbo leaders.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.
The current crop of politicians in the South-East has been described as the “worst in history” by Imeobi Igbo Forum, a Pan-Igbo grassroots socio-cultural organization.
The group also claimed that the region’s current National Assembly legislators had failed the Igbo race and should be barred from running in the 2023 general elections.
In a press statement sent via SMS yesterday, Dr Mike Ikegulu, National Chairman of the Forum, chastised them for their public behavior and utterances, calling it “disappointing” and “painful” to please the chieftains of some ethnic groups.
“Ndigbo have continued to be shamed and short-changed since the emergence of the current crop of Igbo political and business elites,” Ikegulu said. In no way are we truly represented in Nigerian affairs.
“Their public behavior and utterances are disappointing and painful, all in the name of appeasing the chieftains of various ethnic groups.” These Igbo elites have raped and abandoned Ndigbo.
“Those in the national assembly are oblivious to our common interests.” Never lend your voice to anything of Ndigbo interest for monetary gain or personal advancement.”
As a result, he urged people to take advantage of the ongoing PVC registration and to be prepared to vote out leaders who have not done well for the region.
He bemoaned that Nigeria’s current governance system is foreign to Ndigbo, adding that regional leaders emerge through their actions and utterances rather than through election or appointment.
have IPOB banned, a referendum rejected, and Nnamdi Kanu kidnapped and imprisoned in order to silence him
“They remain silent about occupying forces’ atrocities, as well as the ongoing intimidation and slaughter of Igbo youths for agitation.”
“In the party primaries, Igbo politicians chased dollars while ignoring recurring political realities that have left us on the short end of the stick.”
“The current and future Ndigbo generations will regard the current Igbo political and economic elites, who have mostly relocated to Abuja, as the worst in history.”
“The current Igbo legislators in the national assembly should not be allowed back because they are interfering with Ndigbo’s destiny in Nigeria’s complex country.”
“They are there for their families and friends as well as for themselves.” One has to wonder why they plan to return to the same sluggish representation in the national assembly in 2023.”
“We find it unacceptable that serving governors are buying their way into the Senate as a retirement home.”
