Imo pays 6,500 teachers instead of 3,000, Uzodimma reveals

Senator Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State, has revealed that the state government has been paying a total of 6,500 secondary teachers instead of the 3,000 recorded by the data collection exercise, Track News reports.

Gov. Uzodimma bemoaned the system’s fraudulent practices during a meeting with traditional rulers at the Eze Imo Palace in Owerri over the weekend.

He lamented the fact that “people are still being fraudulent and collecting salary that does not belong to them.”

The governor reiterated that he has come to serve the people and to repair all of the sectors that had been rotten and damaged by previous administrations, including politics, civil service, education, health, roads, and water supply.

He challenged the state’s monarchs to do everything in their power to protect their domain and their subjects from any form of criminality.

As “not only custodians of cultures and tradition, but also Chief Security Officers of their various communities,” he reminded them of their responsibility to protect their communities and their subjects.

Governor Uzodimma thanked the monarchs for their contributions to peace, security, and development in Imo State, but expressed regret that they had suffered humiliations and even deaths in the process of working for a better Imo society.

Governor Uzodimma explained that the Imo State government has spent over N100 billion on road infrastructure in the last two years of his administration, money that his administration does not have.

Governor Uzodimma urged traditional rulers to warn their subjects, particularly politicians, not to kill or fight anyone on his behalf in order to win a second term election, stating that “second term is predicated on performance.”

He reiterated his government’s call for criminals and bandits to lay down their arms and come forward for pardon and amnesty.

Responding on behalf of the monarchs, Eze Emmanuel Okeke, Chairman of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, promised to work with the government to root out criminals in Imo communities.
