Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has revealed that the union will hold an “Abuja Mega” solidarity protest in support of trade unions whose strikes have shut down public universities.

Ugboaja said this as seen in a press statement issued by Bello Ismail on his behalf and exclusively obtained by TrackNews Nigeria.

Recall our earlier report that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other trade unions in the education sector have been on strike for more than five months for the inability of the federal government to keep to promises entered with the unions.

Our Correspondent, Mr. Mohammed Oluwatimileyin Taoheed, says what the striking workers asked comprises funding of universities, salaries, and earned allowances of lecturers, to mention a few.

In the words of Ugboaja, in pursuance of the decision of the National Executive Council of the congress, a mega rally will hold on Wednesday, July 27, in Abuja.

” I am directed to inform you that workers are to converge on the Unity Fountain at 7:30 a.m.

“Given the significance of this rally, affiliates are directed to mobilise in large numbers.”

Recall our earlier report that the solidarity protests kicked off nationwide on Tuesday all over the states of the country, while that of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be on Wednesday.
