By Adeleye Kunle
The Katsina State Government announced yesterday that it will deploy 3,000 trained vigilantes to assist security personnel in combating banditry and other related crimes in the state.
Alhaji Ibrahim Katsina, Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Bello Masari on Security Matters, stated this in a chat with reporters in Katsina, adding that 500 personnel had already been trained by the Nigeria Police Force’s Mobile Police unit and were already deployed to frontline local government areas.
Ibrahim Katsina also told reporters that another 600 personnel would be trained and deployed in the near future.
“The arrangement is part of the “three-tier security network under the state community security network,” he said, adding that traditional rulers and security operatives in the state are also involved.
“Our goal is to have 3,000 trained personnel to assist state security operatives.” Each council will have at least 88 such personnel.
“We’ve already trained 500 people at the Mobile Police Force unit and deployed them.” We will train another 600 people who will be deployed at some point in the future. We will have 3,000 personnel in total, who will be deployed to all 34 councils in the state.
“They will be coordinated through the Security Adviser’s Office.” It’s part of the three-tiered community security system.”
