Keyamo Seeks Installation Of Dedicated Powerline, Generating Plants At Kano Airport
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, has appealed to the Kano State Government to facilitate the installation of a dedicated powerline at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.
The minister also sought the assistance of the government in acquiring two additional generating plants to supplement electricity supply at the airport, stressing that this would eliminate consistent power outage at the airport and smoothen air travel experience for passengers and other users of the airport.
A statement by Tunde Moshood, Special Assistant, Media and Communications to Keyamo, said that the minister made these requests over the weekend in Kano when he and his team went on a tour of the MAKIA facilities in preparation for the forthcoming 2024 hajj exercise to holt land.

Keyamo was also in the company of officials from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, including Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District and others.
Apart from the two aforementioned requests, Keyamo further appealed to the State Government to resolve the dispute involving the properties of Skypower, stressing that amicable resolution was necessary at this time.
Keyamo had said that the newly installed facilities at the airport were aimed at enhancing the forthcoming 2024 hajj pilgrimage.
During the meeting, Keyamo expressed his fondness for Kano, saying that the state was always a home for him.
Keyamo further outlined three critical requests aimed at enhancing the efficiency and functionality of the airport.
Besides, Keyamo expressed gratitude for the hospitality and support extended by the Kano State Government and reiterated the ministry’s dedication to enhancing aviation infrastructure across Nigeria.
In his response, Mr. Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, assured the minister that the government would address all the lingering issues itemised by the minister.
Yusuf who was represented at the occasion by Abdulsalamu Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, joined the minister’s entourage for a comprehensive tour of the newly installed facilities at the Hajj camp section of MAKIA.
This, the statement hinted underscored the collaborative efforts between the Federal and State governments to ensure a seamless experience for pilgrims.
