NDIC introducing income-saving campaign to secondary schools.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
To commemorate this year’s World Savings Day, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has taken the gospel of financial savings to students in secondary schools in Bauchi State.
The Corporation stated to reporters in Bauchi at the Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Bakari Dukku, that the purpose of the day, which is celebrated on October 31st, is to educate people about the importance of saving money.
Ajiya Bah Zarma, Zonal Controller of NDIC, urged the young generation to follow the ’20:10:70′ model of saving while presenting a paper titled “Savings Prepare You for a Better Future.”
“The model says you save 20% of your income, give 10% to charity, and spend 70% on yourself,” he explained.
He stated that the NDIC had begun the renovation of 21 classroom blocks in the school to improve the learning environment for students.
“World Savings Day is celebrated annually all over the world to raise savings awareness, and it was created by the Bankers’ Committee.”
“We are renovating approximately 21 classrooms.” Previously, if you saw this school, you would almost cry because it was so dilapidated. This, however, is part of our intervention. It’s the little we can do to encourage students, especially female students.
“We brought the program to this school because we want to catch them when they are young.”
“There are numerous advantages to instilling the habit of saving in children,” she said.
