Stakeholders in the Jos North Local Government Area have approved the project following extensive consultations launched by the Plateau State government for the reconstruction of the Jos Main Market.

In a press conference held in Jos, the stakeholders approved the proposal.

“We the People of Jos North are wholly and fully in support of the laudable move and effort of the administration to rebuild the Jos Main Market as this is the desire and collective aspiration of our people,” Mr. Bitrus Pada of the Anaguta community said in reading the resolution on behalf of the other communities.

We concur that the State Government’s efforts should be stepped up to reconstruct the market because it serves as a source of integration, a site for synergy, and a symbol of unity for meaningful development. Rebuilding the market will strengthen and support efforts to improve our people’s trust, peace, unity, and reintegration.

“We decided that restoring the market will help the city center’s lost charm and increase tourism potential. Additionally, it will improve the business climate for which Jos is recognized.

“We comprehend the matters relating to the Memorandum of Understanding between the State Government and the prospective Investors, the terms of the MOU have been sufficiently conveyed to us in a clear and unambiguous manner, and we are fully aware of and up to date on the matters. We are aware that the state’s economy will recover quickly as a result of this.

“We, the residents of Jos North LGA, view the market as a representation of our tradition, material culture, and willingness to make sacrifices in order to enhance both personal and societal success.

“We are saddened by the insensitive remarks indicating that the market should not be rebuilt or that it should only be rebuilt at an other place other than Jos North. These remarks show a callous and grave contempt for our significant contribution to the expansion of the State’s economy. Such calls are categorically rejected and condemned by us.

“We firmly support the reconstruction of this building because we think it will lower the level of crime and criminality in the abandoned building. Additionally, it will provide a lot of citizens with work prospects. Jos North LGA’s population of more over 75% depends on trade for their survival, advancement, and means of subsistence.

The populace also insists that “We shall urge to His Excellency to consider restoring the land to its original owners if the agitation against the rebuilding of the market persists” (the people of Jos North LGA). We will immediately start using all of our available resources to reestablish the market.
