The Country Director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), Rev. John Joseph Hayab, has called on religious leaders to ensure the maintenance of peace for a successful and peaceful transition to another leadership in Nigeria.

Rev Hayab asked Religious leaders to educate their followers, to ensure a peaceful transition.

”Religious leaders should remind people that those who feel aggrieved on the outcome of the elections should seek redress in the election petition Tribunal rather than resulting to violence that will lead to the loss of lives and destruction of property, he said.

The cleric who made the call in a statement titled “The Role of faith leaders in Dousing Post-election Tension” in Kaduna on Wednesday, said it is the only way both Christians and Muslims and people of other faiths can live together.

”We don’t need to destroy ourselves because of election but we should ensure the maintenance of peace at all times. Nigerians would be helping themselves and the political system if they live peacefully with one another and ensure peaceful coexistence in the country”.
