Six dead and five are missing in Niger State water

The Niger State Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed that six people were killed and five others are still missing in a boat accident in the Gbara area of Mokwa LGA (River Kaduna) in Niger State’s Lavun Local Government Area.
According to Track News, the accident occurred yesterday evening when the boat left Lanchikagi village in Lavun LG for Gbara village with 48 passengers on board.

According to a statement signed by NSEMA Director General Ibrahim Inga, six of the 48 passengers on board died, with five others still missing.

Inga stated that the accident occurred as a result of a heavy downpour accompanied by a strong windstorm.

According to him, 37 people survived the accident, while six people died.

According to the information gathered, the passengers were said to be returning to Danchitagi village market in Lavun local government.

He did, however, say that the agency had launched search and rescue operations to locate the remaining five missing people.

Meanwhile, Track News previously reported that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs revealed that over 500 people have died as a result of flooding in Nigeria over the last decade.

, adding that another 1,500 people were reported injured during this time period, with a total of 1.4 million people affected overall.
Since the start of the rainy season in June, August and September have been particularly deadly and devastating, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). This bad weather affected 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states.

More than 45,000 homes and 70,000 hectares of farmland were also completely destroyed, according to the agency’s deputy information director, Rhoda Ishaku Iliya.

The local meteorological agency (NiMet) revealed that the heavy toll was explained in part by the overflow of several dams in Nigeria and its neighbor, Cameroon, on the Lagdo infrastructure.

The weather service warned that heavy rains are still expected for weeks and months because the rainy season typically ends in November in the northern states and December in the southern states.
