Fear grips Imo State residents as the Imo Traders Union (ITU) plans to barricade the state Government House with corpses of youths allegedly killed by the security outfit, Ebubeagu.

According to reports, there has been unrest in the state since some wedding guests were allegedly shot dead by Ebubeagu operatives.

According to reports, Ebubeagu operatives killed some youths who were returning to their village, Otulu, in the state’s Oru East Local Government Area, after a wedding ceremony on Sunday, July 17.

However, contrary to eyewitness accounts, the Department of State Security, DSS, in Imo State admitted to the incident a few days ago.

The victims, according to the secret police, were members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

In response to the incident, the ITU said in a statement issued by its Chairman, Comrade Damian Ikechukwu, that the planned demonstration at the Government House would continue until the state governor, Hope Uzidinma, resigned.

“We will barricade Imo State government house in protest with the corpses of the 21 slain youths, and we will not relent or stop the protest unless Governor Hope Uzodinma resigns from office as Governor of Imo State,” the statement says.

“Political power belongs to the people in a democratic government, and we the people are fully prepared to reclaim our power.”

“We advise the governor to humbly resign as governor of Imo State, but failure to do so will result in a mass protest by our youth.”
