Police Arraign C’River PDP Reps Candidate, 4 Others Over Killing Of Police Inspector By Obio Monday The police in Cross River State has arraigned the House of Representatives candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Obudu/Bekwara/Obanliku Federal Constituency, Mr. Peter Akpanke, and fourth others over the death in May 23, 2022; of a police inspector, Emmanuel Mbang Ubi.

The policeman was shot at Handmaid’s International Nursery and Primary School along the hospital road in Obudu while the PDP House of Reps primary for the Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwarra Federal Constituency was ongoing. GRASSROOT REPORTERS had reported how some armed thugs stormed the venue of exercise, shot the policeman and disrupted the exercise. Others charged alongside Mr. Akpanke in suit number FHC/CA/14C/2022 filed at the Federal High Court, Calabar; are: Augustine Agba, Jedy KJ Agba, Eric Bona Ushie and Joseph. Mr. Akpanke was arraigned for allegedly promoting and facilitating the act of Terrorism.

The charges read: “That you Joseph Akin ‘m’, A.k.a Obino, Akpanke Peter ‘m’, Augustine Agba ‘m’, Jeddy Agba Joseph ‘m’ and Eric Bona Ushie ‘m’, on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State, Within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did conspire with others at large to commit felony to with: Terrorism, Murder, Attempted murder and unlawful possession of fire arm. And therefore committed an offence punishable under Section 17 (a) of the Terrorism (Prevention) (Amendment) Act 2013. Count II: That you Joseph Akin ‘m’, A.k.a Obino, on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did carry out an action in furtherance of act of terrorism, when you shot and kill one Inspector Emmanuel Ubi Martins with a locally made Gun. And thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (c)(a), and punishable under Section 1 (2) (c) (I) of the Terrorism (,Prevention) Act 2011. Count III:

That you Joseph Akin ‘m’ A.k.a Obino, on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to kill, did unlawfully shot one Police constable Ikwen John with locally made Gun. An act which caused him serious bodily harm. And thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(c) (i) and punishable under Section 4(2) of the Terrorism (prevention) Act 2011. Count IV: That you Akpanke Peter ‘m’, on the 23 day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable court, did promote and facilitates the Act of Terrorism by providing Guns with live Cartridges and Daggers for one Joseph Akin and others at large to intimidate and kill any security personnel and other members of the public seen at the nomination ceremony of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates. And thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(I) (c) (v) and punishable under Section 4(2) of the Terrorism (prevention) Act 2011. Count V:

That you Joseph Akin ‘m’ A.k.a Obino, Akpanke Peter ‘m’, Augustine Agba ‘m’, Jeddy Agba Joseph ‘m’ and Eric Bona Ushie ‘m’, on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Handmaid Catholic Church Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable court, did unlawfully have in your possession eleven locally made pistols, eight live cartridges, a dagger and Criminal Charms in preparation to carry out an act of Terrorism against security personnel and other members of the public. And thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 2(I) (b) and punishable under Section 4(2) of the Terrorism (prevention) Act 2011. Count VI:

That you Joseph Akin ‘m’ A.k.a Obino, Akpanke Peter ‘m’, Augustine Agba ‘m’, Jeddy Agba Joseph ‘m’and Eric Bona Ushie ‘m’, on the 23rd day of May, 2022 at Obudu, Cross River State. Within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable court did unlawfully have in your possession eleven locally made Gun, eight live cartridges without any licence issued to you by the Inspector General of Police or the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 27(1) (a) (I) of the Fire Arm Cap F. 28, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004. All the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges

All the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.
