UPDATE: Wigwe University Sacks VC, Six Months After Takeoff

Wigwe University has announced the determination of the appointment of its pioneering Vice Chancellor, Prof Miles Davis.

This was contained in a statement released by the institution which was jointly signed by Prof. Fabian Ajogwu OFR, SAN Chairman, Board of Trustee, and Prof. Emeritus, Julius A. Okojie, OON, FAAS Pro-Chancellor/Chairman, Governing Council of the institution.

The University did not state the reason behind its decision but the intonation of the statement suggested a lack of dexterity or breach of trust.

The University has, however, approved the appointment of Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution. Prof. Al-Akaidi’s appointment was declared effective immediately.

Before he was appointed the Acting Vice Chancellor of Wigwe University, Prof. al-Akaidi Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi served the institution as both the Dean of the College of Science & Computing and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation).

The management of the institution restated commitment and belief in the leadership of Prof. Al-Akaidi.
“Since joining Wigwe University in January 2024, Professor Al-Akaidi has demonstrated exceptional competence, capacity, character, and a strong connection with colleagues across all levels. His extensive experience in teaching. research, and leadership across multiple countries in Europe and the Middle East positions him well to lead our university during this transition,” the management said.

The management, therefore reassured the public of the commitment of the institution to effectively contribute to the growth and development of the nation.
The management said “We want to reassure you that this transition has been carefully considered to ensure stability and continuity. Our commitment to providing an outstanding educational experience and fostering a supportive and innovative environment for our future leaders as envisioned by our founder, Dr Herbert Wigwe, remains steadfast.
