We received 138 cases of gender-based violence – NCWS breaks silence
About 138 cases of gender-based violence have been received this year, 2022, the National President, National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau, has revealed.
According to her, the NCWS was able to follow up with at about 43 of the reported cases.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja in commemoration of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, the NCWS National President said, “according to the data we have, violence against women is deeply rooted in gender inequality and most cases come from areas that suffer from insecurity.”
For the advancement of policies that would aid in gender equality, she appealed to the Federal Government to support the society towards its realisation.
She also enjoyed religious bodies to assist in ensuring violence cases against women in their domains were reported for necessary actions to be taken to be able to address the problem.
Shafa’u Ladan, the president of the Bauchi State chapter of the NCWS, stressed the need for the full implementation of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, assuring that it would further educate them on the tenets of human rights and safeguard them from all types of abuse in the society
