NiDCOM Calls for Investigation into Nigerian TikToker’s Mysterious Death in Kenya

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has urged Kenyan authorities to investigate the death of Ladi Olubunmi, a Nigerian content moderator found dead in her Nairobi apartment.

Olubunmi, who worked for Teleperformance, a social media contracting firm, was discovered three days after her death, following her unexplained absence from work. Reports indicate that her employer allegedly denied her requests to travel back to Nigeria.

In a statement issued by NiDCOM’s Media and Public Relations Unit, the commission’s chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, emphasized the need for labour laws to protect Nigerians working abroad, ensuring proper documentation, monitoring, and support systems. She also extended condolences to Olubunmi’s family, friends, and colleagues.

NiDCOM is in contact with the Nigerian High Commission in Kenya and is actively monitoring the situation. The agency called for calm among Nigerians in Kenya while the investigation unfolds.

Dabiri-Erewa also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding Nigerians abroad and advised job seekers to engage only with reputable employers.

This incident follows previous cases of Nigerians dying under suspicious circumstances in Kenya, including the 2021 deaths of two Nigerians at a house party in Nairobi’s Kilimani district.
