•••Calls For Immediate Amendment To The NDDC Act To Remove Abia And Imo States, To Create Room For More Niger Delta Youths.

A former National Legal Adviser of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) worldwide, and former Special Assistant (S.A) to the MD/CEO,NDDC, Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta, has commended President Bola Amed Tinubu for his Presidential Assent passing the Bill for the establishment of the South-East Development Commission into Law.

Igbeta made the commendations while commenting on topical national issues, and stated that the creation of the South-East Development Commission is a panacea for tackling the piling developmental challenges bedeviling the south-east region and will go a long way in addressing the agitations from that region.

Describing the move of the President as strategic in the long term peace and security architecture of the country, Igbeta called for another quick amendment of the Niger Delta Development Commission Act, 2024 (as amended) to remove Abia and Imo states from the NDDC Equation, since the two states naturally belong in the now established South-East Development Commission.

The prominent National youth leader and Niger Delta commentator stated that right from its inception some had queried the inclusion of Abia and Imo states within the NDDC, pointing out that it was the accommodating spirit of the Niger Deltan ethnic groups (especially the Ijaws) that kept this queries on the low, but now it is a very good time for Niger Delta Law makers at the National Assembly to act without any further delay and move motions to see to the amendment of the NDDC Act in order to do justice for the Niger Deltans.

Responding to questions on the status of Imo and Abia staffers at the NDDC, the former Law officer of the IYC submitted that their experience is desperately needed to kick start the new commission hence all staff of the NDDC from Imo and Abia be immediately transfered to the South-East Development Commission, so as to create room for more Niger Delta youths to be absorbed into the NDDC and make it truly Niger Deltan in line with the original blue print of the Region.
