By: Mohammed O. Taoheed
Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly has penned notes of felicitations for President Muhammadu Buhari and Senator Douye Diri, the state Governor as the country jubilate over its (62nd) Sixty-Second Independence Anniversary.
Recall that the TrackNews Nigeria has also reported that Bayelsans are on the heels of joy over the (26th) Twenty-Sixth Anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State.
According to the renowned legislator, the country is still grappling with some of the basic loopholes of nationhood, like inadequate political cohesion, institutional fragility, economic and structural challenges as it relates to good governance but she has made appreciable progress in some other areas that need to be celebrated.
Ingobere argued that the uninterrupted democratic rule since 1999 is one such area; especially, against the backdrop of the unending military interventions in our polity before the emergency of our now cherished democracy.
The Bayelsan speaker added that the recent amendment of the Electoral Act to accommodate electronic transmission of results is sure to improve the integrity of the electoral process, strengthening the health of our democracy ultimately.
Similarly, he stressed that all that is needed for the nation to realize her potential greatness is for the leaders to quickly implement the re-structuring of the polity in such a way that justice, equity and fair-play reign supreme; thus, giving every region the deserved sense of belonging which will unleash the creative potentials in every Nigerian.
Ingobere contended that in spite of our peculiar debilitating circumstances arising from the age-long-drawn agitation for a better deal from the centre, which considerably stalled positive developmental activities, we have not fared badly as a state.
He said at this age, Bayelsa State can be proud that we have a stable polity, being superintended by a stable and committed character in the person of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, whose passion to turn around the fortunes of the State is unparalleled.
He posited that commendable progress is being made in the educational and sporting sub-sectors, putting Bayelsa State in national and international limelights.
Equally, Mr. Speaker asserted that there is significant developments in the several infrastructural projects such as the construction of the ongoing three Senatorial District roads, which is bound to revolutionalises the socio-economic developments of our dear State.
High Chief Abraham Ingobere opined that the only way we can keep climbing the ladder of progress is for all well-meaning Bayelsans to identify with and deliberately support the policies and programmes of the Prosperity Administration as a people bound by our collective destiny.
The number one law-maker assured that, the House, under his watch, will do everything possible to provide the legislative supports that will enable the government of Bayelsa State deliver on its mandate to Bayelsans and the residents.
