Nigerians advised by Police to activate locks on their Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards

Police in Nigeria have advised Nigerians to activate locks on their Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards.
Benjamin Hundeyin, a Public Relations Officer in Lagos, gave the advice in a Twitter post following the arrest of a syndicate.
According to the spokesperson, members of the syndicate pick up phones and discard them after removing SIM cards.
They use stolen SIM cards to purchase airtime via bank USSD, which does not usually require a PIN.
After gaining access, the criminals, according to Hundeyin, proceed to empty their victim’s account in some way.
“The only SIM cards with SIM lock that the syndicate never succeeded with.” “Activate your SIM lock right now,” he advised.
Unauthorized transfers and bill payments are on the rise, prompting banks to remind customers about how to protect their accounts.
