The New Nigeria Peoples Party’s presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has stated that the party is still open to accepting Peter Obi as its running mate until July 15th.

In an interview with Punch, the former Kano State governor stated that there are many candidates for vice president to choose from, including Obi.

He went on to say that the party would like a running mate from the South East to help combat the unrest in the area.
He insisted that a regional vice president could negotiate with regional leaders and find a solution to the crisis.

“We are still open on the running mate issue until the 15th of this month,” he said (July). We’re looking for the right person. I’m overjoyed to see so many Nigerians. In the South, the NNPP has several viable vice-presidential candidates, one of whom is a member of the Labour Party (Peter Obi).

The NNPP, in my opinion, wants to take its vice-president if it can solve the South-East problem and reduce the region’s challenges (from there). Because the issue is political in nature, he (vice-president) will summon the people and sit with them when we are sworn in.

At the very least, someone is present. If he wants to figure out how to solve the problem, he can talk to them in Igbo (language). Everyone in northern Nigeria can see that the solution to our problems is right in front of us.“It simply comes down to communicating with the people.

As previously stated, no one is speaking to them (people of the South-East). Nigerian security forces perform better than any bandits or terrorists we’ve encountered. It all comes down to doing the right thing. We have the solution right here. Our young men and women in uniform will go and do their jobs if we add political will.”
