Nine Nigerian Soldiers Rescued In Niger Republic
Nigerien military has rescued nine Nigerian soldiers fleeing bandits’ attack on a joint military base located in Dama village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to Daily Trust, the Nigerian soldiers were rescued at Basira, a border village under Gidan Roumdji district of Niger Republic, on Friday.
Tracknews Online had reported how bandits killed 15 military and paramilitary officers during a vicious attack on the joint military base codenamed “Burkusuma Camp” located in the village on Friday.
The bandits were said to have invaded the village in large numbers, surrounded the camp and started firing from different directions.
It was learned the attack on the Sokoto communities were carried out by bandits from the combined teams of two Zamfara bandits’ kingpins, Halilu Sububu and Kachalla Turji.
Also confirming the attack, a former chairman of Sabon Birni, Idris Muhammad Gobir, said many security operatives in the camp were still missing.
He stated that the terrorists burnt down two patrol vehicles and carted away another one which was used to convey food items stolen from the villagers.
Though mobile networks have been shut down in the area, Gobir that they received a report about the attack from a resident of the area who was using the Nigerien network.
“But I will still contact him for more updates and get back to you,” he assured.
Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps who does not want his name mentioned, said three of their operatives were killed by the bandits.
“As I am talking to you, we are at the morgue to claim and recover their corpses for burial,” he said
It was learnt that the bandits attacked Katsira village, killing four persons and abducting three others.
The state Commissioner for Carriers and Security Matters, Colonel Garba Moyi (rtd), who confirmed the attack on the military base, said that he was not sure of the number of death.
