Northern group speaks out about Peter Obi’s ‘demolishing mosques’ in 2023.
By Adeleye Kunle
According to the Coalition of Northern Groups in Anambra State, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, did not demolish mosques during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.
According to Track News, a Twitter user, Qudus Akanbi Eleyi (@Qdpaper2), claimed that Obi demolished a mosque in Anambra and chased Hausa, Fulani, and other northerners out of the state while he was still governor. The claim and accompanying images have since gone viral.
However, according to a recent statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Isa Jalo, and the Women Coordinator, Hajiya Jamila Ibrahim, northerners have always lived in peace in Anambra.
“Without equivocation, we wish to state here that nothing can be more false and outright malicious than this allegation,” the statement reads in part.
“Our members lived in Anambra State before Peter Obi became governor, and they have remained in the state to this day, carrying on their legitimate businesses.”
“If we may inquire, who are the Muslims or Northerners who Peter Obi expelled during his tenure as governor?” Can the fabricated act’s sponsors point to them for Nigerians to see?”
