NRC Reveals Suspects Behind Abuja-Kaduna Train Attack
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has revealed suspects behind the attack on of its trains along the Kaduna-Abuja track on Wednesday.
Tracknews Online earlier reported that a former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani had disclosed that terrorists attacked the Kaduna Abuja railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train, targeting the engine driver and the tank.
Sani added that he was on board the train on Thursday morning when the train ran over another explosive that damaged the rail track, adding that it took a miracle for them to escape.
This news outlet had reported that the NRC immediately suspended the Kaduna-Abuja service as a precaution to keep the passengers safe.
But in an interview with Daily Trust on Thursday, the Managing Director of the corporation, Fidet Okhiria, denied reports that bandits attacked the train and opened fire on the passengers.
Okhiria stated that it was vandals that actually attacked the train service, adding that parts of the rail track were destroyed in the attack.
He, however, revealed that a probe has begun to determine how the attack happened and ways to avert future occurrences.
The NRC boss added that the service should be restored by Thursday evening following the repair of the rail track
He said: “It’s true our rail track was damaged.
“So we have issues with the track and we are fixing it. We are working to resume train services and by today’s (Thursday) evening, we should run if possible.
“We operated a train from Kaduna to Abuja this morning (Thursday) but we had to suspend operations due to the damaged track until we fix it.”
