Nwoko champions call for investigation into NDLEA operation after tragic child death by stray bullet
In a significant development during today’s plenary session, Wednesday, July 19, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, senator representing Delta North senatorial district, took a strong stand by raising and supporting a petition written by Nwanna Matthew on behalf of the family of the two-year-old boy Ivan Omhonrina, who was killed by a stray bullet while operatives of the NDLEA were conducting a raid in Asaba, Delta state, on July 13, 2023.
The petition seeks immediate investigation and justice for the unlawful and brutal killing of Ivan Omhonrina, as well as the injuring of his younger brother, Eromonsele, who was shot in the eye during the same incident.
Supporting the petition, Senator Nwoko called upon the Senate to take action by appointing the appropriate committee to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that justice is served and those responsible for the tragedy are held accountable.
“This matter has been in the news for days and I want the appropriate committee to take up this matter and direct the Inspector General of Police to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure that justice is served, ” Nwoko stated.
Responding, the senate president, Senator Godswill Akpabio, ordered the Senate’s committee of Ethics and Privilege to take up the case.
