Ohanaeze Provides an Update on Presidential Candidate Endorsement Ahead of the 2023 Election
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, an Igbo socio-cultural organization, has stated that it has not endorsed any presidential candidate for the 2023 election.
Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, South-South Zonal Coordinator of Ohanaeze Youths, made the declaration in a statement on Tuesday.
Arthur-Ugwa warned that the group’s decision would not be influenced by ethnic or religious sentiments, but rather by the candidates’ merit, charisma, and capacity.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, led by our President-General, Prof. George Obiozor, has no preferred presidential candidate at this time,” the statement says.
“When it becomes necessary for us to choose one, we will make our preferences public.”
“As a result, we urge members to resist any form of inducement, financial or otherwise, in the name of Ohanaeze.” This is both distasteful and unacceptable. Our organization’s dignity is sacred,”
He stated.
Furthermore, the zonal coordinator stated that prominent Igbo leaders, such as Mrs Rita Daniels, National Women Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, had warned youths not to turn the upcoming general elections into a money-making venture.
He warned that anyone caught collecting funds on behalf of the Ohanaeze would be dealt with according to established procedures.
