Ondo 2020: Ajayi joins ZLP
TRACKING __Less than 48 days after he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi has resigned from the party.
He resigned to contest the governorship election on the platform of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Ajayi has been cleared by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ZLP to contest the poll.
He said he resigned from the PDP due to call on him by the majority of the people to give hope to the hopeless and provide credible and purposeful leadership.
Speaking through his Media Adviser, Allen Sowore, Ajayi told his supporters to remain focused and committed, saying he would soon announce his next line of action.
Ajayi thanked the national leadership and members of the PDP for their warm reception and acceptance in the short period he rejoined the party.
The PDP Chairman at Apoi Ward II of Ese-Odo Local Government, Mr. Festus Oboro, acknowledged receipt of the resignation letter on August 9.
Ajayi resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and rejoined the PDP on June 21.
His failure to secure the party’s governorship ticket made him to seek ZLP’s ticket.
PDP said the resignation of the deputy governor will not affect its prospect of emerging victorious on October 10.
It said it was yet to receive Ajayi’s letter.
PDP said the deputy governor abused the privilege accorded him by its supporters during his brief stay in the party.
Spokesman Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, in a statement in Akure, said Ajayi’s resignation proved that he (Ajayi) was desperate to become the governor.
The statement added: “In the days to come, it will dawn on him that he has squandered whatever is remaining in his goodwill with this decision.
“His exit from the PDP will not affect our prospect of winning the October 10 governorship election. PDP remains solid, strong and more determined than ever before to win the coming poll with a credible and competent candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN.”
