One Killed As Unknown Gunmen Invade, Burn Anambra Council Secretariat
Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Thursday burnt the Secretariat of Nnewi South Local Government Area in Ukpor Anambra State.
The invading gunmen also killed one person said to be one of the security guards on duty at the secretariat during the attack.
The incident, TrackNews gathered caused tension in the area as residents scampered to safety out of fear of getting embroiled in the attack.
The disturbing incident has been confirmed by the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu who said operatives have been deployed to the scene.
He however stated that the number of casualties could not be immediately confirmed as full details of the incident were yet to be made available.
Tochukwu added that men of the State Fire Service have arrived the secretariat and working to quench the fire.
While the immediate reports suggest arson, the police PRO said the Anambra Commissioner of Police had gone to the scene to assess things for himself.
Meanwhile, in other news, some residents of Niger State have reportedly died in a boat mishap while trying to escape attack by bandit terrorists.
The locals according to reports, had fled Sayita village after terrorists invaded the Munya local government area of the state on Wednesday morning.
However, while escaping the assailants in a local boat, an accident reportedly occurred and at least sixteen people drowned in the mishap.
TrackNews learnt that the boat capsized on the river Kaduna at Bodo village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
