Orji Kalu Speaks On Doing Money Rituals To Buy Mercedes Benz In 1982

By Adeleye Kunle
Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief Whip of the Senate, reminisced about how he was rumored to be involved in money rituals after purchasing the then-newest Mercedes Benz in 1982.
Orji, a former governor of Abia State, stated on his verified Facebook page on Sunday that he was already wealthy before entering politics.
Orji Kalu stated in the lengthy thread that he returned to politics after 12 years as Governor to rescue his people from poverty.
“In 1982, when I bought the latest Mercedes car (the then President Shehu Shagari was the only Nigerian using the same car at the time), I recall that whenever I drove the car, some would look at it with admiration while a few were spreading rumors that I was into money rituals,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“Unfortunately, not much has changed today. People still believe that you can wake up and make money without having to work for it.
“People should stop believing that money is OUK’s motivating factor in politics.” If it’s really about money, as is widely assumed, I already have everything I’ll ever need.
“I never bought a new house while I was governor.” I’ve lost more money as a result of my involvement in politics. I took over from a military administrator, and those who remember Abia before 1999 will appreciate the amount of work we accomplished before leaving government in 2007.
“I stayed out of politics for 12 years after I left as governor.” When it became clear that the zone was heading into the trenches, I returned to politics in 2019 for the sake of the people. Meanwhile, my return to politics has far exceeded my expectations for the Abia North zone.
“As of today, I have the option of resigning as a senator because I use my personal funds to make up a lot of things while serving the people.”
“Unfortunately, Nigeria is a country where people who have done nothing but hold public office are lauded, while those who have worked hard their entire lives, creating wealth and employing people, are called names.”
“Can you imagine expecting a man who gave the PDP five hundred million naira in 1998 and one hundred million naira to the party’s presidential candidate to be hungry?”
“I became a labor employer at a young age and have remained so ever since.” I’ve worked hard my entire life, and the best you can do is study people and try to outperform them.
“For the life we live is not for ourselves alone, but for God, and then for others.”
