Osun 2022: INEC urged to include people with disabilities
AHEAD of 2022 Osun State Governorship election, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been urged to ensure inclusiveness and participation of Peoples With Disabilities.
A non-partisan organisation, National Democratic Institute(NDI), through its Director, Mr Steven Snook made the appeal during a town hall meeting held in Osogbo.
Snook who was represented by Osarodion Edosa noted that the new electoral act has made such provision for PWDs and the need for INEC to recognised them.
“We desire to see PWDs members in participatory governance in the nearest future through their numerical strength. I believe this can be made possible by them to participate actively in politics.”
Also, he urged PWDs to see to the advantage in their numbers to negotiate political positions in the future.
Similarly, Executive Director, The Inclusive Friends Association, Access Nigeria Campaign, Mrs Grace Jerry said the stakeholders meeting would pave way for collaborations in order to provide adequate recommendation to better the lives of PWDs in elections.
