Osun Amotekun Commander: Northbound travelers are not bandits
By Adeleye Kunle
THE Osun State Security Network Agency, code-named Amotekun, clarified yesterday that the north-bound travelers spotted in Osu, along the Ife-Ilesa Expressway, were not bandits.
Some 100 northerners were spotted last week in Osu, the headquarters of the state’s Atakumosa-West Local Government Area, causing concern among the locals.
In addition, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, issued a warning about suspected bandits spotted in Osu.
In response to the alert, Brigadier-General Bashir Adewinmbi (retd), the Amotekun Corp Commandant in Osun, stated, “It is true that some persons of northern extraction, numbering about 100, were sighted on motorcycles traveling from Lagos state to the northern part of the country.”
“However, they were said to be bandits.” We moved to the area, arrested all of them, and after hours of questioning, we discovered that they were traveling north with no intention of settling in any forest in the state, so we had to release them.
“While the people have the right to be vigilant, we should not raise unnecessary alarm in order to create panic among the teeming masses.” We remain vigilant, and we will not let our people fall victim to bandits’ destructive tendencies.”
