#OsunDecides: Oluwo Promises 90,000 Votes For APC, Oyetola
By Adeleye Kunle
Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland, pledged on Saturday to cast 90,000 votes for Gboyega Oyetola, the current Governor of Osun State and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate.
Oba Akanbi stated this on Saturday after voting in Iwo town’s Iwo Local Government’s Unit 1 Ward 2.
He was said to have previously promised to deliver for the ruling party and its governorship candidate in Osun’s ongoing governorship election.
When asked why he supported Oyetola, the Yoruba monarch cited the state’s prompt payment of salaries.
“I am confident of receiving 90,000 votes,” he said. It is difficult for the governor to deviate from the status quo and do the right thing. He has always paid his full salary. Osun is a civil servant state where people rely on their salaries.
“He has been paying off inherited debt and has not spent the money on frivolities.” I have instructed my constituents to vote for the APC, and they will do so. The governor is doing an excellent job. I believe the person who is doing an excellent job should be retained. I want everyone to be able to vote peacefully.”
“Vote buying is a challenge to democracy,” Oluwo said of the country’s vote-buying problem. The populace has lost hope. They take whatever they can get. It’s a terrible situation. We don’t know when to get out. People are hungry, and the new breeds of politicians will help us get out of it. They require food. Vote buying cannot be stopped until we see genuine democratic dividends.
“My domain is serene. Nobody should stay at home, I told them. They should demonstrate their voting power. We want to demonstrate our fortitude. Nobody should stay at home and watch TV.”
