Otegbeye, others abandon ADC in Ogun and join APC

Dr. Leke Otegbeye, son of the late Dr. Tunji Otegbeye and a descendant of the Otegbeye family in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate said he joined the APC and will lead the campaign for Prince Dapo Abiodun’s reelection because he was convinced that if his father was alive, “he would be in the progressives fold.”

After meeting with Governor Abiodun at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, Otegbeye, who led other leaders and stalwarts of the African Democratic Party (ADC), told reporters that he and the former ADC members identified the governor’s personal qualities and governance style, which led to their decision to join the APC. His Excellency strikes me as a calm, collected, and pleasant individual with whom to work. His is a compassionate person with the ability to lead, and working with someone who can steer people in the right direction will be beneficial.

“I am bringing people of like minds and high integrity who are eager to add value to the party and work for its success in addition to myself.” We’ve seen the governor’s work across the state, and I must say he’s doing an excellent job. As you know, government is a continuum, and we are confident that he will do even better. “From where he started, he has done a great job,” Otegbeye said. “If given another chance, I believe he will continue and improve on what he has done thus far.”

The former ADC chieftain praised the governor for following through on his promise to distribute development projects evenly across the state, noting that the current administration has touched every sector of the economy in its three and a half years in office. “Sometimes it takes time to measure decisions, so once you make the decision, it stands,” Otegbeye said of their defection to the ruling party. “I am a progressive, and if there is anywhere I should be, it should be with the APC,” she says.

Biyi, an Otegbeye family member, is the ADC candidate who was recently barred from running for governor by a court order. Gov. Dapo Abiodun welcomed the defecting ADC members into his campaign train, saying, “It is always good to appreciate good deeds,” and assuring them that they would be treated as equal APC stakeholders. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Otegbeye for honoring the memory of his late father by identifying with the ideals of good governance, inclusive leadership, and political accountability. “We want you to know that you will be treated with dignity and that we will not disappoint you in any way.”
