Oyibo Chukwu: Pat Utomi reacts to killing of Enugu Labour Party senatorial candidate
Prof. Pat Utomi has insisted that Nigeria has made politics too attractive for criminally minded people.
Utomi said this while reacting to the killing of the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, Mr Oyibo Chukwu.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, the Convener of BIG-TENT, a coalition of Political Parties, Social Movements and Civil Society Organisations for Peter Obi-Baba-Ahmed Datti, said the Nigerian states had become almost a criminal enterprise.
Utomi said: “We have made politics too attractive for criminally minded people, and so the Nigerian states have become almost a criminal enterprise.
“The most criminal-minded are the ones who are likely to grab power in the way Nigeria is configured.
“What do you do when that perception goes into global thinking that those who run Nigeria are criminals?”
Recall that Chukwu was reportedly murdered and set ablaze alongside other party members on Wednesday evening at Amaechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
It was gathered that unidentified persons accosted them while riding in a Toyota Sienna vehicle.
