The Obeagu Community in Ebonyi State’s Ishielu Local Government Area is in a state of panic following the alleged invasion of Nigerian Army troops.
Some community leaders who spoke with reporters on Monday confirmed the development.

According to community leaders, the military men stormed the neighborhood around 5 a.m., shooting sporadically and allegedly burning some houses.

They claimed that the troops who invaded the community arrived in ten Hilux vehicles and seven armored tanks, accompanied by more than 100 military personnel.

The military’s goal had not been stated at the time of filing this report, and no one had been reported killed.

One woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was said to have been struck by a stray bullet.

While confirming the invasion, a community leader and immediate past councillor of the community stated, “We woke up this morning with military gunshots.” Everyone is on the run as I speak. Soldiers are shooting in every neighborhood. All of the Eha-Amufu people who fled to our community after being sacked by Fulani herdsmen are now on the run with residents.”

Another resident, identified as Ogbuabor Sunday, said the soldiers stormed the community while they were attending morning mass, or Catholic early morning prayer.

“I was in the church this early morning around 5:30 pm when over 30 military vehicles, including armored tanks, rolled into the community,” he said. They began shooting sporadically shortly after. Nobody had gone home after attending church this morning. “I’m responding to this call from inside the bush.”
