PDP Condemns APC’s Alleged Use Of Police To Suppress Deputy Governorship Candidate Ahead Of Imo Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the alleged attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State to utilize the police force to hinder and stifle its Deputy Governorship Candidate, Dr. Jones Onyereri, in preparation for the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11, 2023.
PDP also expressed its disapproval of what it labeled as the “unwarranted” deployment of security personnel by the APC in Imo State to intimidate and harass opposition figures.
The PDP particularly highlighted the recent controversial incident involving certain police officers who were purportedly used by the APC to apprehend and limit the activities of Dr. Onyereri before the election.
According to the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Hon Debo Ologunagba, the emergence of Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Dr. Jones Onyereri as the Governorship and Deputy Governorship Candidates respectively has stirred unease among Governor Hope Uzodimma and the APC.
Allegations were made that they are employing state apparatuses to impede their rivals.
Dr. Onyereri dismissed concerns about the ongoing petition filed by seven former party officials, deeming it a distraction that will not impede their victory. He expressed this viewpoint when responding to a police summons alongside other party officials.
Ologunagba argued that the APC’s purported use of the police as a political tool reinforces the perception that Uzodimma and the APC are anxious about the increasing popularity of PDP’s candidates.
The PDP spokesperson also claimed that the APC is resorting to covert tactics, involving compromised individuals within government institutions, to levy false charges, unfounded allegations, and smear campaigns against opposition figures in the state.
He asserted that the people of Imo State remain firmly supportive of PDP’s candidates, Senator Anyanwu and Dr. Onyereri, recognizing their capabilities and commitment to rejuvenating the state’s prospects and security.
Ologunagba emphasized the confidence the electorate has in their experience, skills, and dedication to revitalizing Imo State.
