The Gombe State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the borrowing of N100 billion by the state government, describing it as a bad omen for All Progressive Congress (APC)- led administration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya.

The party’s chairman, Maj. Gen. Audu Kwaskebe (retd) in a statement warned of the grave consequences of the ‘heedless’ debts the APC government is stockpiling on the state.

According to Kwaskebe, the Yahaya-led administration has already heaped over N100 billion debt on the state in less than three years of its holding forth.

“We can’t sit down to watch this clueless administration stockpiling debts in the state without a commensurate achievement on ground. Governor Yahaya is just using the seat of power to mortgage the future of the state and that of our children,” he said.

Kwaskebe said the way and manner the APC administration is carelessly acquiring debts will gravely endangers the future of the state.

The PDP Chairman vowed that the opposition party and the people of Gombe State would not fold their arms, watching the APC administration mortgaging the future of the state without commensurate achievements.

But, the Director General, Press Affairs to Governor Yahaya said there was nothing wrong in obtaining loan, especially if such loan is budgeted for and tied to a project.

“Generally, there is nothing wrong with obtaining loans provided they are applied for the implementation of projects that will ultimately pay for themselves as this is best practice in even developed countries.

“Let it be known that all loans collected by this administration are budgeted for and tied to projects, which have economic and social value which are all verifiable.

“It should also be noted that the loans collected by the past administration are still being paid for by this administration for which some will continue till the end of the first tenure of this administration,” he said.
