PDP in Crisis as Atiku Move Against Wike preferred Acting Chairman
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly in crisis again as members loyal to Atiku Abubakar move against Umar Ililya Damagum, the acting national chairman.
TrackNews Media reports that the loyalists, who include former governors Sule Lamido and Babangida Aliyu, allege that Damagum is working for Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers state.
Sources reveal that Wike, which has now been named in Tinubu’s cabinet, further worsens the internal crisis in the party.
Atiku’s loyalists allege that Damagum has been “hobnobbing” with Wike and that he “mismanaged” the funds he inherited from the Ayu-led national working committee (NWC), the Cable quoted a source as saying.
Despite the cold war between the two factions, it is understood that some of Atiku’s proxies have been reaching out to Wike to help with the party’s election cases at the tribunals across the country.
Recall that Wike led a group of five PDP governors that rebelled against Atiku, the party’s presidential candidate, in the 2023 general election.
Atiku lost the election to Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and is currently in court to challenge the outcome.
The rebellion led by Wike is believed to have contributed to Atiku’s loss.
