PDP Ogbia Ward 9 Executive Committee Members Receive Over 100% Increase in Monthly Allowances as South-Zonal Secretariat Takes Over Payment

Effective February 2025, the South South Zonal Secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has assumed responsibility for paying the monthly allowances of the Chairman and members of the Ogbia Ward 9 Executive Committee in Bayelsa State.

This move follows the decision of the faction led by Solomon Agwanana to discontinue payments to the committee members after they refused to suspend the Party’s Zonal Secretary, George Turnah (MON), as directed by the State Working Committee under Agwanana’s leadership.

The refusal to comply with the suspension order led to the formation of a parallel leadership for Ogbia Ward 9 by Agwanana’s faction, which has since been receiving allowances while the legitimate committee members were denied their payments. In response, the Zonal Secretariat stepped in to ensure that the officially recognized executives of the ward continue to receive their entitlements.

Under the new payment arrangement, the Chairman of the Ogbia Ward 9 Executive Committee will receive N100,000 per month, while the Vice Chairman and Secretary will be paid N70,000 and N50,000, respectively. The other 14 committee members will each receive N30,000 monthly. The new payment structure represents an increase of over 100% compared to the previous allowances. The payments for February 2025 have already been distributed in accordance with this revised scheme.

The South South Zonal Secretariat has condemned the actions of Agwanana’s faction, labeling the rival leadership and its activities as unlawful. The Secretariat has reassured PDP supporters in Bayelsa State of its commitment to restoring order within the party and ensuring that it remains a strong platform for advancing the interests of the state.
