PDP primaries: Aspirant rejects result in Gombe
– A PDP governorship aspirant in Gombe has rejected the outcome of the party’s primary
– He expressed his distrust, adding that the process was not a reflection of democracy
– He called the statesmen in the party to rescue the state from imminent doom
Alhaji Jamilu Gwamna, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected the results of the election that produced Senator Bayero Nafada as the party’s governorship candidate in Gombe state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that Nafada scored 1,104 votes to defeat 12 other aspirants including Gwamna, who scored 147 votes to come second.
TRACK NEWS notes that Gwamna in a release titled: “The Stolen Mandate: Gombe state PDP Governorship Primary Election,” said the result was not a reflection of the delegates’ choice.
He said: “The result is not a reflection of delegates’ choice. The result of this election is a disruption of the democratic tentacles upon which our party stands.’’
Gwamna, however, called on all true democrats in the PDP to come to the rescue of democracy in the state.
Recall that the PDP governorship election which held on September 30 was disrupted following violence that erupted.
Meanwhile, TRACK NEWS previously reported that three from the seven gubernatorial aspirants stepped down before the commencement of the PDP primaries in Benue state.
The aspirants, Dave Iorhembe, Gabriel Nyitse and Joe Iorapuu, all accepted to step aside in the interest of the party. Nyitse said PDP needed to maintain its stronghold for a great come back in 2019.
He advised the party to always ensure they rewarded party faithful. He, however, said that the party should not develop the culture of allowing aspirants’ dreams be stopped half way.
