PDP Summons Convention Organizing Committee Meeting Amidst Court Anxiety

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned a meeting of the party’s 2021 National Convention Organizing Committee, NCOC, (Main Committee).
The notice of meeting was issued on Wednesday by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde who is the Secretary of the party’s 2021 National Convention Organizing Committee.
According to the notice of meeting, the main organizing committee will meet by 3pm on Friday at the party national headquarters in Abuja.
Makinde added that attendance at the meeting is strictly by invitation.
The notification reads: “As part of our preparation for the forthcoming Saturday October 30 to Sunday 31, 2021 Elective National Convention of our great party, the PDP, all members of the NCOC (Main Committee), are hereby invited to a meeting as follows;
“Date: Friday October 29, 2021.
“Venue: Legacy House, Shehu Shagari Way, Maitama, Abuja
“Time: 3:00Pm
“Please note that attendance is strictly by invitation.
“Members are advised to also note that Covid-19 protocol on public gatherings will be strictly observed.”
The meeting comes amidst uncertainty surrounding the planned convention due to the court case instituted by the suspended National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus.
Naija News recalls Secondus had taken steps to stop the convention of the main opposition party.
The development was revealed in a letter dated 21st October 2021, and released through his lawyer, Tayo Oyetibo, SAN.
Secondus in the letter disclosed that an appeal has been filed at the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Judicial Division in respect to the case filed by one Mr Ibeawuchi E. Alex and four others jointly instituted Suit No PHC/2183/CS/2021.
The suit among other things seeks to stop the PDP from holding a convention until the matter in court is concluded.
However, the Board of Trustees chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibril, has advised the suspended chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, not to make the party ungovernable.
Naija News had reported that Secondus on October 18, said he will not withdraw the suit challenging his removal, insisting that the party should stop the preparation for the convention, pending the hearing of his case in the court of appeal.
Speaking on the issue on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, on Wednesday, Jibril said it will be “very wrong” for Secondus, being a founding member of the PDP, to make the party “ungovernable”.
He pointed out that the decision of the party is supreme, and as such, the national convention will take place on the appointed date.
