Peter Obi Responds to the Assassination of Imo Labour Party Candidate

The death of Christopher Elehu, an Imo State House of Assembly Labour Party candidate, has saddened Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate.
Obi issued a personally signed statement on Friday evening in which he strongly condemned the killers’ actions.

Elehu was the Labour Party’s candidate in the Imo State House of Assembly for Onuimo Local Government Area, as previously reported by Track News.

Unknown gunmen assassinated the politician, who was suspected of being hired assassins.

Elehu’s home was also allegedly set on fire, and his belongings, including a motorcycle, were destroyed. The gunmen, who were said to be on a rampage, allegedly went to other politicians’ homes in the area but were met with their absence.

According to reports, their gunshot lasted for more than two hours without being interrupted.

Obi responded by expressing his dismay at the report and urging security agencies to find and punish those responsible for the killing.

“I am deeply disturbed by the clearly targeted murder of Hon. Christopher Eleghu, Labour Party State House of Assembly Candidate for Onuimo LGA in Imo state,” he said. His house and vehicles were allegedly set ablaze.

“I condemn these heinous acts in the strongest possible terms. Such actions are incompatible with our security, civility, and the recently signed Peace Treaty. Federal and state law enforcement must work tirelessly to identify those responsible for the murder. -PO”
