The President of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has informed the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja that Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, was double nominated.

Mr. Tinubu claims that at the time Mr. Obi ran for president under the Labour Party, he was still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Furthermore, President Tinubu provided documentation, asserting that Peter Obi joined the Labour Party on May 27, 2022, after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, on May 25, 2022. Three days later, on May 30, 2022, the Labour Party had its presidential primary.

In addition, according to Section 77, subsection 3 of the nation’s Electoral Act, every political party in the nation is required to provide a list of its registered members to the INEC 30 days before to the holding of the party’s primary elections. He continued by stating that Peter Obi’s name was omitted from the Labour Party’s list of members that was submitted to INEC.

On the other hand, Bola Tinubu presented to the Tribunal through his lead attorney, Mr. Wole Olanipekun, SAN, some documents from the Nigerian Immigration that cleared him for travel to the United States as well as a letter from the American embassy dated April 4, 2003 that asserts Bola Tinubu has no criminal history.

Although this particular case has already been dismissed by the Federal High Court and Appeal Court, it is currently before the Supreme Court and the Tribunal, and Nigerians are waiting to see how it will all turn out.
