Peter Schmeichel reveals who to blame for Mudryk’s struggles at Chelsea
Manchester United legend, Peter Schmeichel, has blamed Chelsea’s dressing room for winger Mykhailo Mudryk’s ongoing struggles at the club.
Mudryk turned heads during the first half of the ongoing 2022-2023 season with ten goals and eight assists in 18 matches for Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Ukrainian, who was close to joining Arsenal in the first two weeks of the January transfer window, ended up joining their rivals Chelsea in a deal worth up to £89 million.
Mudryk, who is blessed with pace and directness, has failed to settle in at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old has laid out just one assist in ten appearances for Chelsea so far this season, and he is yet to score a goal for the Blues.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Schmeichel said, “It was a lot of money spent and no goals. [Mykhailo] Mudryk was a big transfer. I’ve seen him play for Shakhtar in the Champions League a few times and he was absolutely outstanding there. But, of course, Shakhtar plays in a different style and they play in a different way.
“He came in with this price tag. He was sort of nicked from Arsenal at the last minute and there were also a lot of external non-football issues around his personality. And now go and score goals, it is a big, big call.”
He added, “The Chelsea dressing room doesn’t work. There is not a good atmosphere there, too many players in there, who have brought in on promises, then they look around and there are 35 of them.”
