The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, stated that the country intends to step in and host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) insists that the tournament will be held in Guinea.

Pinnick announced on Tuesday that he informed CAF executives of Nigeria’s interest in co-hosting the 2025 tournament with Benin during an emergency Zoom meeting.

Guinea’s political situation has raised concerns about security and organization for the 2025 World Cup, which has been under military rule since a coup last year.

Some media reports have suggested that the event be moved out of the West African country, but a top CAF official has stated that neither his organization nor Guinean football officials have discussed such a move.

“Guinea is still the host country for the 2025 tournament,” he told BBC Sport Africa.

“We haven’t discussed a replacement or heard anything from Guinea about our inability to host.” There is currently nothing to prevent Guinea from hosting, and there is no reason to believe otherwise.”

Pinnick, a member of Fifa’s governing council, believes the country will be able to co-host the 2025 edition with neighboring Benin.

“We’re still at the beginning of the process,” he explained.

“It will become clear as time goes on which stadiums Nigeria will present to host the matches.”
