Police arraign man for allegedly defrauding business woman of N4m
The police on Tuesday, arraigned a 52-year-old man, Ajibade Joshua, in an Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly collecting 250 bags of rice valued at N4 million under false pretence from a business woman.
Joshua, who lives at No. 24 Oretayo Street, Sango-Ota, is charged with three counts conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused and others, (at large ), committed the offence on Aug. 4, at about 10. 30p.m. at Sango-Ota.
He said that the accused and his accomplices collected the bags of rice from the complainant, Mrs Kate Inneh, with a promise to pay as soon as he finished selling the rice.
Mustapha alleged that the accused sold the bags of rice and converted the money to his personal use and also threatened the complainant when she asked for her money.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 390(9)and 419(1)(a) (b) and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Chief Magistrate Mathew Akinyemi admitted the accused to bail in the sum of one million Naira with two sureties in like sum.
Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until Jan. 3, 2019 for further hearing. (NAN)
