Police arrest ten, recover arms over Osun NURTW violence
The Commissioner of Police, Faleye Sunday Olaleye has revealed that the Osun State Police Command has arrested ten suspects as a result of the intervention of its personnel into the crisis that erupted between rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers’ (NURTW) in Osogbo on Monday.
In a statement signed by Yemisi Opalola and obtained by Track News on Tuesday, Olaleye disclosed that various weapons, which included one Beretta pistol, two pump action rifles, two double barrel guns, nine live and four expended cartridges, five cutlasses and charms were recovered from the suspects apprehended.
Olaleye expressed surprise at the news of the attacks perpetrated by NURTW members in several parts of the State, with attendant destruction of offices and injury to some persons and police personnel.
The Osun police boss also recalled that a meeting was earlier held between the police and the union executives and other transport stakeholders in the State to avert any unwarranted attacks and forceful takeover of the parks in the State.
Upon getting information of the violent attacks, Olaleye revealed that he directed the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to ensure the situation was brought under control and the culprits arrested.
