Police confirms six injured in crossfire with bandits along Kaduna-Abuja expressway
Police have reported that six people were injured in a shootout between security forces and robbers on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway.
According to the authorities, the event occurred on January 6, 2024, when a large number of bandits attempted to cross the highway but were stopped by security personnel.
In response to an allegation of abduction on the same day near Kateri, the Kaduna State Police Command clarified the situation in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansur Hassan.
The Commissioner of Police, Audu Ali, advised journalists to verify information with the relevant security agencies before publishing.
It was gathered that gunmen abducted travellers near Kateri village during a 45-minute operation on Tuesday.
The command underlined the importance of journalists always correcting falsehoods with security services before going to print.
The police disclosed that the incident occurred in the Dogon Fili neighbourhood and six people were injured by bullets at various points throughout the encounter.
“The injured include Jibrin Tasiu, Jummai Abubakar, Zafira Abubakar, AbdulKarim Nurudeen, L/Cpl Chinedu Jerry Moneke, and Ayo James. All were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention,” he said.
The police urged the people in the affected region to report anyone with suspected bullet injuries to the nearest police station or security unit.
The command emphasised that the incident was a regrettable isolated occurrence, adding that the Kaduna-Abuja motorway has been reinforced for commuter safety.
