Anambra State Police Command has arrested a policeman, who was captured in a viral video using the nozzle and butt of his official AK-47 rifle to beat up a tricycle operator.
There had been an outcry over the incident, but the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a press release that the man has been identified and arrested for questioning.
Ikenga said: “We wish to let the members of the public know that the police officer seen on a viral video assaulting a citizen has been identified.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, ordered immediate disciplinary proceedings to commence on the incident.
“The CP reiterated that the command under his watch would not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel and emphasized the need for officers to be courageously calm when dealing with the civil populace, especially when being provoked.”
Ikenga said the command was calling on the victim pictured in the video to come forward, to help in facilitating investigation into the assault.
He also urged citizens to always respect the civil authority and be law-abiding when dealing with law enforcement agents.
